Commonly referred to as a
“downshift” in mood, depression may be transitional, due to a trivial
event. Note this “downshift” in mood is different to Clinical
Depression, a mental disorder in which symptoms persist for at least
two weeks and interfere with one’s daily activities.
Environment
Most obvious causes are often described as a form of loss; such as the loss of a loved one, or moving. Other possible causes include disappointment in one’s career, feeling little or no control within one’s environment (feeling helpless), financial stress and loneliness. Relationship difficulties and feeling others do not care about you will also elicit a depressed mood.
Anxiety
Also contributors to serious states of depression, anxiety and stress will also diminish one’s mood. If left unchecked and one’s mood is further diminished, the person may contemplate suicide.
Our Counselors will equip you with the necessary tools to cope with depression and overcome the feelings to help you regain control of your life.
