Founder Dr. Donald Miller

Dr. Miller's career spans 23 years in the mental health field. He first began practicing psychotherapy in 1974 as a therapist for persons admitted to a large metropolitan hospital in his home town of Boise, Idaho. He received his Master's degree in clinical psychology in 1981  and his Doctorate in 1989.  Following this, he continued his therapy practice at several mental health centers including 12 years as the Clinical Director of two community mental heath centers in Idaho. In this capacity he supervised literally dozens of therapists while continuing to develop his own clinical practice expertise. As a clinical supervisor, he was exposed to a multitude of therapeutic models and all the newest techniques that have proven to be helpful. Consequently he has developed and refined his therapeutic skills into an approach that he believes works very successfully for many people. He currently lives in Florida with his wife and 3 Children.

During his 23 years of practice in the mental health profession, he observed that many people don't feel comfortable going to a therapist's office. They may be concerned about being seen by friends or neighbors, the loss of privacy, reluctance to talk to a therapist face-to-face, the inconvenience of driving back and forth, the expense, or any number of reasons. These were all valid concerns and he believes that phone counseling can relieve some, if not all, of them.

Dr Miller founded the MYER  Foundation  Counseling Center  so that he could help the thousands of people that were experiencing emotional pain and yet were unable or unwilling to go to a therapist. He believes that a respectful, empathic relationship is essential for the therapeutic process to be effective.

The MYER foundation was founded in 2001, starting with only five on staff therapists. It has, over the years developed into a nation wide center with Counselors all over the United States and Canada.
