It is challenging to raise adolescents in today’s society as they are
exposed to new information and experiences at an alarming rate. Thus
parents and their children may feel out of control during this stage of
parenting. A teenager in the home has a significant impact on family;
with parents experiencing difficulties discerning normal and abnormal
adolescent behavior.
Teens
encounter numerous pressures: peer pressure, pressure to portray a
certain image, and the need to feel as though they belong. Often
parents lack the skills/knowledge to set appropriate boundaries and
understand the correct discipline techniques. Issues which may arise
are impulsivity, communication issues, mood swings, and negative peer
influences. While struggling to maintain the family unit, parents are
confronted with issues ranging from drug experimentation to rebellion
and acting out.
Our Counselors will help you understand
the challenges of adolescence and assist you in moving forward with
your teenager. Parents will learn behavioral techniques, create
behavior plans, and learn reinforcement techniques for behavior
patterns. An objective Counselor will have a positive impact on
the family as behaviors decrease and the family unit moves toward
cohesion.
